Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Hypnosis & How Does It Work?

Hypnosis enables you to leave behind external distractions and focus your attention on yourself and what’s happening within. It empowers you to identify and orchestrate your thoughts, feelings, perceptions, memories, and beliefs using the gift of your own imagination, to create a mindset that allows you to achieve your desired well-being goals. A clinical hypnotherapist acts as a guide, teaching you how to focus your awareness so that you are better able to relax, identify limiting beliefs, release difficult emotions, get to the root cause of a problem, come up with solutions, and make transformational changes. Think of hypnotherapy as the crossroads where meditation meets coaching. As each session is online, you can do this from the comfort of your own home.

Will I Be Asleep During Hypnosis?

The simple answer is, 'No'. You’re likely to be very deeply relaxed with your eyes closed, and with a focused awareness. You will still be able to hold a conversation during the session. Clients have reported a much better nights sleep following on from hypnosis.

Is It The Same As Stage Hypnosis?

Hypnotherapy is nothing like stage hypnosis. The latter is used for entertainment purposes. However, clinical hypnotherapy empowers you to achieve your well-being goals and make transformational changes.

Is Hypnosis Mind Control?

Hypnosis is NOT mind control. Hypnosis enables you to leave behind external distractions and focus your attention on yourself and what’s happening within. You may even have noticed that some of your most creative ideas, solutions to problems, or the name of something you’ve forgotten, come to you in those moments when your mind is calm and free from the stresses of day-to-day life. In this mindset you are better able to use your imagination to relax, identify limiting beliefs, release difficult emotions, get to the root cause of a problem, come up with solutions, and make transformational changes.

You will be in full control throughout the session, so you will only do what you want to do. You will not end up revealing any of your darkest secrets (unless you want to) and you will not end up ‘stuck in a hypnotic trance’. On the flip side, the more you want to achieve something, the greater the chance of success.

What Is Self-Hypnosis?

During your session you will learn how to focus your awareness inwards and shift your mindset in order to achieve your well-being goals.

You'll be able to use this concise, personalised self-hypnosis throughout your day, along with other agreed upon homework tasks to make transformational changes.

How Does It Feel To Be Hypnotised?

Most people find hypnosis to be very relaxing. Some will feel that their body is lighter/heavier or may experience tingling sensations. Others may feel nothing at all. You may continue to think thoughts during hypnosis. This does NOT mean that you have not been hypnotised.

It is possible to access long forgotten memories during hypnosis and for some people this means memories linked to a history of trauma. This can be distressing, however, a clear plan can be devised before a session so that the hypnotherapy process can be amended accordingly depending on your goal.

Can Anyone Be Hypnotised?

As hypnosis enables you to leave behind external distractions and focus your attention on yourself and what’s happening within, anyone can be hypnotised. A clinical hypnotherapist can adjust the technique used to improve your response to hypnosis depending on how easy you find it to use your imagination and as this is a skill that you can improve on, the more you practice, the easier you’ll find it.

Individuals with a history of epilepsy, personality disorder, psychotic symptoms, or delusional symptoms should consult their healthcare provider before having hypnotherapy. You can read more about my client requirements in the Service Terms & Conditions.

What Is Coaching?

Coaching is a partnership between you and your coach. With the use of thoughtful questioning by your coach, it affords you the time, space, and guidance to generate new ways of thinking; transform self-limiting beliefs; identify your strengths, values, and purpose; and find solutions to complex issues in your personal and professional life. Having a good rapport with your coach is key so that you feel able to open up and share your thoughts and feelings in full confidence. Coaching is NOT about being given advice or being told what to do as in mentoring.

Is Coaching Therapy?

Coaching is not therapy. Whilst psychoanalytical therapy focuses on understanding and resolving emotional trauma from the past and the impact on the present, coaching focuses on the present and future. This includes generating new ways of thinking; transforming self-limiting beliefs; identifying strengths, values, and purpose; and finding solutions to complex issues.

What Happens During A Session?

In your first 1-hour online session I will listen to the challenges that you are facing and what well-being goal you would like to achieve. Any queries that you have about coaching and hypnosis will be discussed. The session ends with you learning a personalised self-hypnosis that you will be able to continue to use going forward.

In follow-up sessions we will discuss the positive changes that you have noticed and the areas that need further work. This will enable me to determine which techniques to use during the session, and as coaching and hypnotherapy are collaborative processes, we will also jointly decide what post-session tasks will benefit you prior to the next consultation. I offer 6 session packages to help achieve long-term transformation.

Does Coaching & Hypnotherapy Work Online?

Yes - if you’re in a quiet, calm environment where we can clearly hear one another, then the consultation will run smoothly. You also have the benefit of being able to have your sessions from the comfort of your own home.

Can You Guarantee It Will Work For Me?

Results can vary from person to person as with any treatment, therefore, I cannot guarantee that coaching and hypnotherapy will work for you. Some people notice a change right away, for others it takes longer, and some people experience no benefits at all. What I can guarantee is that I will use a professional, empathetic, and non-judgmental approach to work with you to help you achieve your goal.

What Do I Need To Do To Prepare?

A huge positive of having coaching and hypnotherapy online is that you can have a session anywhere in the world as long as you have good internet access and a charged device that can receive video-calls. It’s important to be in a quiet room where you can get comfortable and won’t be disturbed. Headphones may also help, and any devices that can receive notifications should be silenced or put on airplane mode.

Will I Remember The Experience?

Hypnotherapy will not induce amnesia. Most people remember the majority if not all the experience. It’s also important to note that you don’t have to try and process and remember everything that is being said in the session. Furthermore, you may continue to think thoughts during hypnosis which doesn’t mean that it isn’t working for you.
